Fjand is situated in a lovely nature area with the North Sea on one side and the inlet Nissum Fjord on the other.
Fjand is surrounded by sea, inlet, moor and forest. There are rich opportunities for outdoor leisure activities in the varying and scenic area. From Fjand you can enjoy the beautiful view of the inlet Nissum Fjord and the island Fjandø, which is located in the inlet, right outside the main land. The island Fjandø is laid out as a bird sanctuary and during the summer months you are not allowed to visit the island. The area around the inlet Nissum Fjord has a rich animal and bird life. Visit f.x. one of the charming farm shops around Fjand. Furthermore, the area offers amber sale, galleries and handicraft shops.
Beach Fjand has a white sandy beach with sheltering dunes and Blue Flag. The beach invites swimming, sun bathing, walks and various beach activities. To fly with a kite is a very popular activity here.
Nature Within walking distance you can find both the North Sea with the lovely sandy beach and the dunes as well as the inlet Nissum Fjord with the island Fjandø, a rich bird life and good angling possibilities. The holiday houses are situated in a slightly hilly area with moor and forest. Just south of Fjand the dune plantation Husby Klitplantage is situated. Here you will find i.a. Denmark's most western beech forest. The plantation is an ideal place to cycle or walk along the marked paths.
Activities The immediate vicinity offers a forest playground and a minigolf course. Windsurfers will find very good conditions in the area. Anglers can throw out the line in the inlet, the sea, the streams as well as in the Put & Take fishpond Fjand Fiskepark. Many good bicycle and walking paths are available in the area. The beach is also ideal for walks, no matter the time of the year.
Worth a visit At the large manor house Nr. Wosborg from the Middle Ages you can experience the daily life on a Danish farm. On the wreckage museum 'St. George' in Thorsminde you can get a glimpse of daily life onboard the English warships 'St. George' and 'Defence'. The museum was founded after one of the world's largest shipping accidents in the year 1811. Two English ships were shipwrecked here and more than 1,000 lives were lost right outside Torsminde. Hear the tragic story and see objects from the two ships. Among the interesting finds you will find canons, gold coins, music instruments and weapons.
Excursion spots Visit the old and pretty provincial town Ringkøbing. The town is characterized by its houses with red tiled roofs and its old cobbled streets (33 km). Ringkøbing Museum exhibits finds from an iron-age village in Fjand, such as f.x. a famous charred door. The commercial town Holstebro has a number of interesting specialist shops and good shopping possibilities in the traffic-free town centre. Furthermore, the town offers plenty of art and culture, cosy cafes and a beautiful environment around the stream. The open-air museum 'Hjerl Hede Frilandsmuseum' near Vinderup is an interesting and lifelike museum for the whole family. See among other things how the daily life in the country 150 years ago is vitalized. The flower park 'Jesperhus Blomsterpark' on the Liim Fiord island Mors also offers a jungle zoo and a play land. The park is one of the largest of its kind in Scandinavia.
