Holiday Kegnæs, SE Jutland, DenmarkKegnæs is a small, level and sparsely populated peninsular, which is situated by the inlet 'Flensborg Fjord' and is connected to Als through the natural dam 'Kegnæs Drej'. The holiday houses of this peaceful and cosy peninsular are mainly situated along the southern coast in the towns Vestermark, Østerby and Sønderby, where you will also find the best beaches. Kegnæs is an ideal place for swimming, windsurfing, fishing, walking and driving on bicycle.

Beach
The southern coast of Kegnæs offers good and sandy beaches. The beaches are suitable for children as the water is shallow at the edge. Bathing jetties are also available at some places.

Nature
KegnæsThe peninsular Kegnæs lies low and the landscape is level. The nature is fertile and the peninsular offers a number of forest areas.
The lake 'Hartsø' is situated in the south-western corner of Kegnæs and surrounded by common reed and meadow areas. During springtime you can experience a rich bird life here.

Activities
The conditions for surfing are ideal along the southern coast of the peninsular - for both beginners and experienced surfers. A surf school is available at the spot. Furthermore, it is possible to speed-surf on level water.
Anglers will find good opportunities along the shores, on the Baltic as well as in the lakes and streams of the area. You will find some of the best fishing spots of the area by Vestermark and by the dam 'Drejet' (on the Kegnæs side).
The area is very suitable for sailing, and boats can be rented in the vicinity.
Lovely experiences await you along the many walking and bicycle routes of the area, which i.a. lead through a bird sanctuary.

Worth a visit
The 18 metres high lighthouse 'Kegnæs Fyr' is situated by the dam.
The church of Kegnæs is famous for it's hourglass on the pulpit, which shows the course of the service.
Als and Kegnæs both contain a large concentration of relics, cromlechs and grave mounds.

Excursion spots
Some of the most historic relics on Als, like i.a. the mill 'Dybbøl Mølle' and the castles 'Gråsten Slot', 'Sønderborg Slot', 'Augustenborg Slot' and 'Nordborg Slot' are worth a visit.
The mill 'Dybbøl Mølle' from the year 1744, which is situated on the former battlefield, today functions as a small museum with pictures and memorials from the battlefield.
The castle 'Gråsten Slot' and its palace garden are surrounded by a scenic nature with forest and a lake. The profusely decorated castle church and the palace garden are open to the public.
The castle 'Sønderborg Slot' is restored according to the Baroque and contains i.a. a museum for the South Jutland history.
Go on a day tour to the German border, which lies only 60 km from Kegnæs.
