The cosy holiday house area is situated by the beach of Hejsager, right by the Little Belt and about 12 km from the old marked town Haderslev.
Hejsager is situated in the bay 'Sandvig Bugt' in quiet surroundings. Here you will find a lovely nature with forest and bird areas, fine beaches, good leisure activities as well as interesting and historic sights. It is possible to buy groceries in Hejsager, which is situated a few km inland, and in Haderslev you will find more restaurants and good shopping possibilities.
Beach The beach of Hejsager is a good and sandy bathing beach, which is facing south. The water is deep and the beach has the Blue Flag. The beach of Kelstrup, just south of Hejsager, has more bathing jetties, small waves and no surf. The waters of the bay 'Sandvig Bugt' and the Little Belt are very suitable for windsurfing and sailing. A few km towards north the beach of Flovt is situated. The beach has shallow water and a sandy bottom, and therefore it is very suitable for children. The beach has fine sand, dunes and Blue Flag.
Nature
Right behind the holiday house area the small forest 'Hejsager Skov' is situated. Along the shores of Hejsager you will find more bird refuges. The plantation 'Kelstrup Plantage' is a lovely pine forest with a rich animal life, which surrounds the holiday house area Kelstrup, just south of Hejsager. The nature behind the coast is very varying. The paths and routes invite walks, bicycle or riding trips. The valley 'Haderslev Tunneldal', just south of Haderslev, contains the valley 'Tunneldalen', the forest 'Pamhule Skov' and the animal park 'Dyrehaven'. The animal park 'Dyrehaven' is a 100 hectares large, scenic area with forest, open grassy areas and meadows. About 100 fallow deer live in the park. The scenic forest 'Pamhule Skov' is a 300 hectares large forest with a rich animal life and many hills and slopes. In the valley 'Tunneldalen' you will find 4 marked walking routes as well as a number of paths, which enable you to experience the unique nature on foot and on bicycle.
Activities Golf players can try out some of the 9 courses in South Jutland, and the course of 'Haderslev Golfklub' is very recommendable. Anglers will find good opportunities along the shores, where the fishing water is good and the bottom is partly sandy, partly stony and partly weedy. You can also fish in the Put & Take fishponds of the area or on the sea. Deep-sea fishing trips onboard a fishing vessel are arranged in Aabenraa and Haderslev. A sail through the 12 km long inlet 'Haderslev Fjord' with the boat 'Helene' is a lovely experience. Sails are arranged from Haderslev during the summer period. Haderslev offers leisure activities like f.x. swimming baths, bowling alley and tennis courts. It is possible to rent bicycles and riding horses in the area. The varying vegetation on the sea floor as well as an old German submarine station make the area around Diernæs, about 10 km south of Hejsager, an interesting place for divers.
Worth a visit
In the plantation 'Kelstrup Plantage' you can experience grave mounds from the stone age, the bronze age and the iron age. Visit the old marked town Haderslev. Here you will find a cosy pedestrian street, many green recreational areas, an old part of town with gently restored houses, more interesting museums and collections as well as the beautiful cathedral (12 km). The mill 'Runde Mølle' is situated on Løjtland, just south of Hejsager, where you can also enjoy the sight of the many restored houses with thatched roofs. The island Barsø, which is situated about 1 km offshore from Diernæs, functioned as a submarine base during World War 1. 2 old bunkers from World War 2 can still be seen in the bay by Diernæs. You will find a number of interesting castles in the area, like f.x. 'Aabenraa Slot', 'Gram Slot' and 'Gottorp Slot' (the latter in Germany).
Excursion spots Go exploring under the star dome of the planetarium 'Orion Planetariet' in Rødding and learn more about how the vikings made use of the sky (46 km). 'Sommerland Syd' in Tinglev is the largest amusement park in South Jutland. Here you will find action, speed and excitement for both children and adults (53 km). Go on a daytrip to the German border, which is situated only 57 km from Hejsager. LEGOLAND is build out of 50 million toy bricks. More than 50 activities provide you with speed, excitement and experiences! 'The funniest playground for the whole family' offers knights in armaments, pirates, tough cowboys, wild Indians and much more (81 km). All over South Jutland you will find historic relics and culture treasures. Visit f.x. the camp 'Frøslevlejren' with more interesting museums by the German border. By Sønderborg you will find the historic centre 'Dybbøl Banke', where you can learn more about the events on the battlefield in the year 1964.
