 Follerup is located app. 10 km behind Fredericia in a lovely, tranquil and hilly nature area with fields and green spaces.
In this recreational area you can experience peace and quiet as well as beautiful and unspoiled nature with a stream, abounding in fish, and a lake among other things.
Close to Follerup you will find lovely bathing beaches, nature areas of scenic beauty, leisure activities, towns like Fredericia (10 km), Vejle (17 km) and Kolding (26 km), as well as many of the Jutland's most popular sights and amusement parks.
It is possible to buy groceries in the area, and nearby the larger towns offer good shopping opportunities, restaurants and sights.
Beach
Østerstrand in Fredericia is a sandy beach with a bathing jetty and Blue Flag. Here the opportunities for windsurfing are good as well (11 km towards east).
The beach is Hvidbjerg is a good and child-friendly sandy beach with Blue Flag. Here you will also find a 27-metres high, preserved dune - the only sand dune in Jutland, which is facing east. From the top of the dune you can enjoy the scenic view of the nature area Trelde Næs and a part of the inlet Vejle Fjord (13 km towards northwest).
Strandparken in Skærbæk offers a find, long and white sandy beach with a sandy bottom as well as clear, clean and calm bathing water. The beach is sheltered by trees and other plantation. Strandparken is located in an area of scenic beauty (13 km towards south).
Nature
Follerup is surrounded by a lovely and hilly landscape, which consists of fields and green spaces with plantation and trees.
The stream Møllå, which is well stocked with fish, flows through the valley Mølleådalen near Follerup. Furthermore, the valley contains the lake Møllesøen and the pretty, restored mill Follerup Mølle.
In the nearby forest Fuglsang Skov you can experience fallow deer if you are in luck.
The forest Hannerup Skov offers many scenic views.
To the northeast of Follerup the peninsular Trelde Næs is located. The area offers a lovely, sandy beach, fields, meadows and beautiful forest area with a rich animal life. Uttermost the lighthouse is placed by the wood of gnarled trees, and a ramified network of paths lead you to more viewpoints, from which you can enjoy the sight of the inlet Vejle Fjord (13 km).
Activities
A number of golf courses are available in the area. Among others Fredericia Golf Club offers a beautiful, 18-hole golf course with lakes and streams as well as one of Denmark¿s longest Par-3 course with 9 holes (8 km).
It is possible to fish in the stream Mølleåen, the lake Møllesøen, in the harbour of Fredericia, more places along the shore as well as in the Put & Take fishponds of the area. You can also go sea-fishing with a fishing vessel, which sails out from the harbour of Fredericia.
The shores on both sides of Fredericia also invite swimming, beach activities and watersport, like f.x. surfing, diving and sailing in kayaks and boats.
If you wish to pamper yourselves, you can visit the spa Fredericia Kurbad and enjoy a vitalizing treatment in comfortable surroundings.
The park Madsbyparken in Fredericia is a recreational leisure area with f.x. a large playground, a petting zoo, a lake with a fountain, a golf course, a historic miniature town and an exercise path.
Worth a visit
The mill Gammelby Mølle is a 200-years old watermill in the valley Mølleådalen near Follerup. Experience the milling, the living room with beautiful paintings as well as the museum shop.
The listed watermill Børkop Vandmølle is idyllically located in scenic surroundings. Among other things is famous nation-wide because of its gourmet restaurant. The watermill is still running a few hours a week, and freshly milled and grains are sold on the spot. Here you will also find a museum of local history, which displays agricultural tools and craftsman tools from former times (10 km).
The 350 years old fortress town Fredericia is scenically situated by the Little Belt and surrounded by the best-preserved ramparts in Northern Europe (11 km).
Vejle is a beautiful and cosy commercial town with many interesting shops, good restaurants and cultural offers. The landmark of Vejle is a white windmill from the year 1846 (17 km).
Excursion spots
On the scenically situated museum Trapholt near Kolding you can experience interesting exhibitions of Danish pictorial art and furniture design. The collection of handicraft includes pottery and textile (21 km).
Jellingstenene are two large runic stones with inscriptions from the viking age, and are regarded as the 'birth certificate' of Denmark (28 km).
The girl Egtvedpigen was found in the town Egtved in 1921 and is one of the best-preserved finds from the Bronze Age. A museum in Egtved informs of the rare find and shows copies of the girl's coffin and her garments (37 km).
Givskud is a combined lion park and zoo. Here you drive among the wild animals and are able to look hippos and lions into the eyes (37 km).
LEGOLAND is build out of 50 million toy bricks. More than 50 activities provide you with speed, excitement and experiences! LEGOLAND offers knights in armaments, pirates, tough cowboys, wild Indians and much more (43 km).
