The interesting and cosy commercial town Nykøbing Sjælland on North Sealand is situated by forest and beach.
 Nykøbing Sjælland is situated in the area Odsherred, the quiet corner of north-western Sealand, with only a few km to both the Kattegat and the bay 'Nykøbing Bugt' in the inlet 'Isefjord'. The holiday house area is located by 'Isefjord', a couple of km from the centre of town, and here you can experience the atmosphere in the lovely marina. Nykøbing Sjælland offers a number of shops along the pedestrian streets, restaurants, leisure activities and sights for the whole family.
Beach
It is possible to swim in the inlet 'Isefjord', close to Nykøbing Sjælland, but only a few km towards north, you will find the lovely, sandy beach 'Nykøbing Nordstrand', which is also suitable for children.
In the bay 'Sejrøbugt', about 10 km towards west, a number of lovely bathing beaches with the Blue Flag, like i.a. 'Lumsås Strand' and 'Gudminderup Strand' with small dunes are available. The beaches of the bay are suitable for children and offers good conditions for windsurfers.
Don't miss the magnificent sunset over the sea from one of the beaches.
Nature
 Nykøbing Sjælland is surrounded by scenic nature with fields, forests and lots of water.
By the forest 'Ulkerup Skov og Overdrev' (by Nykøbing Sj.) old house sites, fences and a village pond from a forest village are still visible.
By Hovvig, east of Nykøbing, you can experience an interesting bird sanctuary. The path 'Isefordsstien', which starts in Rørvig and ends in Kongsøre, leads you right through the wetlands, where you can observe the birds from a large gazebo.
The hilly area 'Klint Bakker' is a quite unique nature area with good walking paths (7 km).
The area around the beach 'Hønsinge Lyng' is preserved, but can be visited. Lovely nature surroundings, plantations with pines as well as a hilly and varying landscape surrounds the area (12 km).
Activities
In Nykøbing Sjælland you can bowl in a bowling alley, which also offers entertainment for the youngest in the family.
Sealand offers a number of golf courses, and the area, surrounding Nykøbing Sjælland, also offers good possibilities for golf players. Try out the courses of i.a. 'Odsherred Golfklub' by Højby (7 km) and 'Melsalgaard Pay & Play' with 9 holes in Gudminderup (9 km).
Anglers can try their luck along the shore, in the canals of the inlet 'Lammefjord' or on the sea onboard a fishing vessel, which sails out from Sjællands Odde (26 km) or Havnsø (35 km). Furthermore, 3 Put & Take fishponds are available in the area.
The area is ideal for walks and bicycle trips, as a very scenic route leads right through Nykøbing Sjælland.
Worth a visit
 Nykøbing Sjælland is a cosy marked town with a pedestrian street, various shops and pavement cafés and good, cultural offers. Experience f.x. the remarkable sculpture, inspired by the fall of the Berlin Wall, where a pigeon flies through a granite wall.
Just south of Nykøbing Sjælland you will find 'Anneberg' - a large collection of sculptures, antique glassware and art.
The amusement park 'Sommerland Sjælland' offers more than 60 activities for the whole family, like a cosy canoe trip, a wild ride in the roller coaster or a visit to the largest water world in Sealand (5 km).
The passage grave by Højby is one of the best preserved graves in the country. The passage grave has 2 chambers, is 4.5 metres high, has an external diameter of 26 metres and functioned as burial chamber for 98 people. The exhibition from the excavation can be seen on the nearby 'Stenstrup Museum' (7 km).
The area is rich in galleries, studios, workshops and exhibitions, as many craftsmen inhabit this area.
Excursion spots
Visit 'Lumsås Mølle' - a working mill museum, where the flour is still milled in the old-fashion way. Experience the impressive constructions, the beautiful interior, the white arms of the mill and buy flour (12 km).
In the zoo 'Odsherreds Zoo Dyrepark' by Asnæs you can experience 600 animals, divided on 100 species (20 km).
'Lejre Forsøgscenter' consists of 4 houses and 8 small workshops from the iron age. Here you can sail in dugout canoes, chop wood with an iron age axe and mill flour (60 km).
At the viking museum 'Vikingemuseet' in Roskilde you can experience ships from the viking age, copies of viking ships as well as other Scandinavian commercial boats (66 km).
Visit the capital Copenhagen with the vivid culture life, museums, music, theatres, galleries, the pedestrian street 'Strøget' and the many sights (99 km).
