Hønsinge Lyng is a lovely and quiet holiday area with one of north-western Sealand's best bathing beaches.
 The holiday area Hønsinge Lyng is situated in the bay 'Sejrøbugten', south of the tongue of land 'Sjællands Odde', between the areas Vig Lyng and Ellinge Lyng. Here you are close to beach, forest, leisure activities and sights for the whole family. It is possible to buy groceries and dine in the area.
Beach
By Hønsinge Lyng you will find one of the best beaches of the area Odsherred. It is a lovely, sandy bathing beach with low dunes. The beach is suitable for children, as the water is shallow by the edge, and here is plenty of space for everyone. To get to the beach, you will have to walk over a bridge, which connects the shore with the sand bars.
Nature
The area, surrounding the beach of Hønsinge Lyng, is preserved, but can be used. Lovely nature areas with forest, plantations with pines as well as hilly and varying landscapes surround the holiday area. The district is ideal for walks and bicycle trips. By Havnsø, south of Hønsinge Lyng, you will find one of Sealand's largest coastal moors with meadows, small ponds, heather and rare vegetation.
By Houvig, east of Nykøbing, you can visit an interesting bird sanctuary.
Activities
A minigolf course is available in Hønsinge Lyng.
The area offers more golf courses, i.a. the ones of 'Højby Golfbane', 'Odsherred Golfklub' and 'Mensalgård Pay & Play' with 9 holes.
If you wish to go horseback riding, it is possible to rent horses more places in the area.
Anglers will find good opportunities along the shore or on the sea, onboard a fishing vessel, which sails out from f.x. Havnsø or Sjællands Odde. Furthermore, 3 Put & Take fishponds are available in the area.
Worth a visit
The light and the landscape of north-western Sealand have attracted many artists. Visit some of the many artists and craftsmen in their galleries and exhibition spots.
The passage grave by Højby is one of the best preserved graves in the country. The passage grave has 2 chambers, is 4.5 metres high, has an external diameter of 26 metres and functioned as burial chamber for 98 people. The exhibition from the excavation can be seen on the nearby 'Stenstrup Museum' (11 km).
Visit the mill 'Lumsås Mølle', which is a working mill museum, where the flour is still milled in the old-fashion way. Experience the impressive constructions, the beautiful interior, the white arms of the mill and buy flour with you home (13 km).
The castle 'Dragsholm Slot' by Hørve is Denmark's oldest castle. The former fortress from the early Middle Ages contains a dungeon and offers many ghost stories. A beautiful palace garden belongs to the castle (19 km).
Excursion spots
In the zoo 'Odsherreds Zoo Dyrepark' by Asnæs you can experience 600 animals, divided on 100 species (11 km).
Nykøbing Sjælland is a cosy marked town with a pedestrian street, various shops and pavement cafés and good, cultural offers (12 km).
The amusement park 'Sommerland Sjælland' by Nykøbing offers more than 60 activities for the whole family, like a cosy canoe trip, a wild ride in the roller coaster or a visit to the largest water world in Sealand (12 km).
Go on a ferry trip from Havnsø (23 km) to the island Sejerø, which has Denmark's mildest climate, a hilly landscape, many small bathing beaches as well as more passage graves and a monolith
Visit the capital Copenhagen with the vivid culture life, museums, music, theatres, galleries, the pedestrian street 'Strøget' and sights like the Tivoli, a planetarium, the art museum 'Carlsberg Glyptotek', the castle 'Rosenborg Slot' with the crown jewels, København Zoo and much more (81 km).
