Gilleleje has it all: Forest, lovely beach and a vivid town and harbour environment.
 Gilleleje is the northernmost town on Sealand and one of the most scenically situated with forest and beach in the immediate vicinity.
The idyllic alleys and the beautifully restored houses have been preserved in Gilleleje. At the same time, Gilleleje is an active town with good shopping possibilities, more restaurants as well as Sealand's largest fishing harbour. At the cosy and evocative harbour you will always find a vivid activity as well as a smokehouse and more fishmongers and restaurants. It is often possible to buy fresh fish directly from the fishing vessels.
Beach
The lovely, sandy beach of Gilleleje has shallow and calm water, which makes the beach very suitable for children. If you wish to swim in deeper water, you can make use of the bathing jetty of the beach.
Nature
 Gilleleje is surrounded by an exceptionally scenic nature with forest, heathery hills, fertile fields, steep slopes and lovely bathing beaches.
The path 'Gilbjergstien' begins in Gilleleje, winds through the holiday house area, over barrows and ends by the headland 'Gilbjerghoved', which is situated about 35 metres above sea level. From here you can enjoy the scenic view of the area and the Kattegat. Gilberg is a popular resting place for migratory birds.
The hills 'Fyrbakkerne' is situated between Gilleleje and the lighthouse 'Nakkehoved Fyr', and the forest offers more marked walking routes.
'Heatherhill' by Rågeleje is a beautiful, preserved and undulating area with large heathery hills, which lead all the way down to the Kattegat.
By the forest 'Grib Skov' (15 km), you will also find the lake 'Esrum Sø', which is scenically surrounded by an untouched landscape with forests and meadows. Here you can swim, sail and observed the birds in the bird sanctuary.
Activities
2 golf courses are available in the immediate vicinity of Gilleleje: 'Passebækgård' offers a 9-hole course and by 'Gilleleje Golfklub' you will find an 18-hole course.
You will find tennis courts in Gilleleje.
Anglers will find good opportunities from the harbour.
Lovely nature experiences await you along the many walking and bicycle paths of the area, like f.x. along the 2.5 km long path by 'Gilberghoved' and along the path, which leads to the lighthouse 'Nakkehoved Fyr'.
Worth a visit
The church of Gilleleje was build by local fishermen in the year 1538, and is surrounded by the old cemetery.
In 'Gilleleje Museum' you can experience exhibitions concerning the fishing industry as well as an old fishing house.
The castle ruin 'Søborg Slotsruin' originates from the 13th. century and was used as a state prison during the Middle Ages (2 km).
The lighthouse 'Nakkehoved Fyr' was build in the year 1772 and is situated about 30 metres above sea level. From the path by the lighthouse you can enjoy the scenic view of the area and the sea.
'Munkeruphus' is a preserved and idyllically situated country house, which is used for exhibitions.
The old Cistercian convent 'Esrum Kloster' from the year 1151 has a beautiful convent garden and a small convent pharmacy. The convent is scenically situated by the lake 'Esrum Sø'.
At the museum 'Rudolf Tegners Museum' in Dronningmølle the plaster and marble sculptures of the sculptor Tegner are exhibited.
Excursion spots
The amusement park 'Nordsjællands Sommerpark' in Græsted is a cornucopia of amusements and activities for both children and adults. Among other things it offers a jungle path and a water world (15 km).
In North Sealand you will find more interesting castles. With its towers and spires the castle 'Frederiksborg Slot' looks like something out of a fairy-tale. The castle 'Fredensborg Slot' is the summer residence of the Queen Margrethe.
The marked town Helsingør by the 'gate' of the sound 'Øresund' contains a cosy, old quarter and the beautiful castle 'Kronborg Slot', which is one of Northern Europe's most significant Renaissance castles (28 km).
Experience the capital Copenhagen with the vivid culture life, museums, music, theatres, galleries, the pedestrian street 'Strøget' and sights like the Tivoli, a planetarium, the adventure centre 'Eksperimentarium', the art museum 'Carlsberg Glyptotek', the castle 'Rosenborg Slot' with the crown jewels, København Zoo and much more (75 km).
