Vorupør is an old fishing hamlet with a cosy and vivid atmosphere, surrounded by beautiful and unspoiled nature.

In the popular holiday resort Vorupør in Thy the fishermen still draw their boats and fishing vessels up on the landing place every day after use - a very old and well-preserved tradition. From the 350 metres long breakwater you can follow the activities at close range. It is often possible to buy fresh fish and shellfish directly from the boats on the beach.
The town offers many good shops with f.x. clothes, handicraft, amber, candles and pottery. Furthermore, you will find more restaurants as well as interesting sights here - among others an aquarium and a museum.
Vorupør is surrounded by beach and large, preserved dune and moor areas. Here you can spend your vacation in charming and very scenic surroundings, build up new energy, enjoy yourselves with the family, engage yourselves in leisure activities in fresh and clean sea air as well as visit some of the interesting sights of the area. The nearest larger town is Thisted, which is situated 22 km towards east.


Beach

The beach of Vorupør is a lovely bathing beach with the Blue Flag. The beach, which mainly consists of coarse sand, is app. 100 metres wide and 4 km long. The water is mostly clear and the bottom is sandy.
High dunes with lyme grass shelter the beach, and in the dunes you can find peace, shelter and shade.
The cosy beach is also used by the local fishermen, who drag their boats up here after use.
The beach invites swimming, sunbathing and beach activities, and the wind equally provides good conditions for windsurfers.
Don't miss the sight of the sunset over the North Sea from the beach or the pier - an exceptional sight.

Nature

Vorupør is surrounded by the blue North Sea, the distinctive dunes as well as the large preserved nature area with dunes, moor, hills and heater, which stretch all the way along the western coast of Thy. In these plantations you walk, ride, search for fungus or perhaps be in luck and experience roe deer, red deer or foxes.
The large state forests in the hinterland form the largest coherent forest areas in Denmark. The forests offer lakes, streams, gentle beech forest and wind-swept pines. The landscape is very varying and the nature is both unspoiled and magnificent. This part of the country is densely populated, and therefore you will find the nature of the area very spacious.

Activities

The lovely beach invites swimming, relaxation as well as walks, windsurfing and coastal fishing. You are able to fish from the beach, from the long pier or in one of the Put & Take fishponds of the area. If you wish to go deep-sea fishing, you can join a trip to f.x. the reef Det Gule Rev directly from the landing place in Vorupør.
You can rent riding horses in the area and ride on the beach or in the scenic nature behind the shore.
Tennis courts are available in Vorupør.
Golf players can make use of a cosy golf ground in the plantation Nystrup Plantage near Vang (12 km), or visit one of Denmark's most challenging courses, belonging to Nordvestjysk Golfklub in Thisted (22 km).

Worth a visit

In the aquarium Nordsøakvariet in Vorupør you can experience fish and marine animal, caught by the fishermen of Vorupør.
Vorupør Museum has been established in the former boat-building yard, where the ships for the local fishermen were build. The museum illustrates the historic background of Vorupør and the special lifestyle of the coastal population.
The former rescue house of Stenbjerg is converted into a small museum, which informs about the history and function of the life saving station. In one of the fishing houses nearby you can see a small collection regarding the history of the fishing hamlet (5 km).
The 'sawmill' museum Svankjær lille Savværk exhibits a small collection of Danish paper collages, which have been carved out of wood instead. See the result of a time-consuming and accurately executed piece of work and buy an example if you wish to (13 km).

Excursion spots

Thisted offers shops, restaurants, galleries, potteries, the brew-house Thisted Bryghus and Thisted Museum, which has been established in an old villa. The museum contains a memorial room for the writer J. P. Jacobsen and exhibitions, which illustrate the peasant culture of Thy (22 km).
Visit Museumscenter Hanstholm with the museum bunker - Northern Europe's largest fortress with a bunker. At the museum area you can experience exhibitions, canons, uniforms, weapons etc. (25 km).
The coastal centre Kystcentret in Thyborøn is an interesting experience centre for the whole family. Learn more about the shore, which surrounds Denmark. In the aquarium JyllandsAkvariet in Thyborøn you can hold a crab in your hand, pat a shark on the head and stroke a flatfish - an exciting and different experience (36 km).
Jesperhus Blomsterpark is Scandinavia's larges flower park with colourful flower arrangements, jungle zoo with beautiful tropical birds, pirate and play land and an aquapark (41 km).
