Svankjær is a cosy, small village in southern Thy, surrounded by scenic nature and situated close to the North Sea.
 The village Svankjær is situated between the old fishing hamlet Stenbjerg and the idyllic coastal town Agger, only 6 km from the sea. Here you will find peace, quiet, fresh air and lovely nature areas with forest, fields, moor and dunes. The area is ideal for nature lovers, anglers and art enthusiasts.
It is possible to buy groceries in the village, and in the nearby, larger towns like Hurup (17 km), Thisted (35 km) and Hanstholm (37 km) you will find a wide selection of shops and restaurants.
Beach
From Svankjær the distance to the North Sea and the beach by Lodberg is 6 km. The beach is about 50 metres wide and more kilometres long, and it consists of both sand and stones. The water is clear and the bottom is sandy. The high dunes towards north form beautiful and steep cliffs towards the water.
The wide, sandy beach with stones by Stenbjerg has Blue Flag. The water is almost always clear and the bottom is sandy. However the quickly gets deep and strong currents can occur (10 km).
By Agger you will find good bathing possibilities. The beach has Blue Flag and is very suitable for children. It is about 100 metres wide and consists of both sand and stones. The water is clear and the bottom is sandy with stones. The many groynes provide shelter, which makes it pleasant to bathe and stay on the beach. However, the water quickly gets deep and often waves and ocean currents can occur (14 km).
Nature
 Svankjær is surrounded by scenic, distinguished and unspoiled nature with large forest, moor and dune areas.
By Stenbjerg you can experience the characteristic lyme grass dunes at all sides. Enjoy the fresh scent of salty sea, pines and vigorous arable land (10 km).
The area between Vorupør and Stenbjerg is a part of the large dune landscape, which together with the plantations behind the coast form a unique nature area along the west coast of the area Thy.
The bar Agger Tange, 14 km towards south, is a preserved nature area with a rich bird life. The shallow wetlands, the large lagoon lakes and the fords on the east side of the bar provide good feeding and breeding places for many water birds. Furthermore, the bar is an important resting place for many bird species on their spring and autumn flights of swallows.
Activities
Anglers will find good opportunities in the area, as it is possible to fish along the shores of the North Sea, in the Liim Fiord towards east as well as in the fresh water lakes 'Flade Sø' and 'Ørum Sø'. Furthermore, deep-sea fishing trips to the reef 'Det Gule Rev' with a fishing vessel is arranged from Hanstholm.
The scenic nature areas, surrounding Svankjær, invites sojourns, walks and bicycle trips in the in the open.
Golf players can try out the course by 'Nordvestjysk Golfklub' by Thisted (35 km).
Worth a visit
 The church of Svankjær is Denmark's smallest village church. Next to the church you can experience a characteristic wooden bell tower. 'Svankjær lille Savværk' (a small sawmill) shows an exhibition of Danish paper collage, however carved in wood.
From the lighthouse Lodbjerg Fyr you can enjoy the view of the rough landscape and the dune plantation (6 km).
In Stenbjerg a small museum has been established in the former, and here you can learn more about the story and the function of the station. In one of the nearby fishing houses, you can see a small collection about the story of the fishing hamlet. In Stenbjerg it is also possible to buy fresh fish from the local fishermen (10 km).
In the popular fishing town Vorupør the fishing vessels are still drawn up on the landing place on the beach every day after use - a very old tradition of the area. From the 350 metres long breakwater you can observe the activities on close range (13 km).
Excursion spots
In 'De sorte huse' (the black houses) in Agger, an exhibition about the history of the coast protection is shown (14 km).
Go with the ferry from Agger to Thyborøn, which form a contrast to the other Liim Fiord towns because of its colonist style in rough nature.
The coastal centre 'Kystcentret' in Thyborøn is an interesting experience and communication centre for the whole family.
The Liim Fiord centre 'Limfjordscentret' in Doverodde is a 150-years old and very well-preserved merchant's house. Here you can have an authentic impression of the role of the merchant's house in those days. On the second floor of the building alternating exhibitions are displayed (24 km).
Visit Hanstholm with i.a. the lighthouse 'Hanstholm Fyr' and the bunker museum 'Bunkermuseet', which informs about World War 2 (37 km).
The flower park 'Jesperhus Blomsterpark' is a large flower park with colourful flower arrangements, jungle zoo with i.a. beautiful tropical birds, play land and water world (46 km).
