Melholt is situated by the Kattegat on the east coast of northern Jutland, 13 kilometres north of the Liim Fiord.
 Coast, meadows, fields and plantations surround Melholt. Near Melholt you will find many of the lovely east coast beaches, which are all suitable for children. The quiet and peaceful area is very attractive for bird enthusiasts and anglers among others.
It is possible to bye groceries in the area. Good shopping possibilities and restaurants you will find in the nearby towns like Dronninglund (12 km), Sæby (30 km), Hals (13 km) and Aalborg (40 km).
Beach
By Hou (5 km towards south), Asaa (5 km towards north) and Lyngså (19 km towards north) you will find good and child-freindly bathing beaches with fine sand, dunes and shallow water with a sandy bottom. All 3 beaches have the Blue Flag.
Nature
Melholt is surrounded by a scenic nature with i.a. forest, sea, lakes and streams.
A few kilometres north of Melholt, the game preserve and EU-bird sanctuary 'Aså-Gerå Vildtreservat' is situated. The area stretches from Gerå and 3-4 km towards north to Aså along the coast, and here you can observe the rich bird life.
10 kilometres inland you will find the scenic forest 'Dronninglund Storskov' with marked walking routes, which lead you over hills and through forests with meadows and a lake. Experience f.x. 'det uforklarlige vandløb' (the inexplicable stream), which flows uphill - contrary to the law of gravitation.
Between Albæk and Voerså 'Holtbjerg', a fascinating and undulating moraine landscape is situated. From here you will have an amazing view of the sea and the small villages of the areas. Don¿t miss the seven bronze age mounds of Holtbjerg (16 km).
Activities
Melholt is an attractive area for anglers, who can fish in the sea, in the streams and lakes of the area as well as in the local Put & Take fishponds.
More golf courses are available in the area, and the beautiful courses by 'Hals Golfklub' and 'Sæby Golfklub' are the closest.
The possibilities for windsurfing are good in Melholt.
The park 'Naturparken' is situated near Dronninglund, and here you will find activities for the whole family, like i.a. tennis, minigolf, pentanque and beach volley.
The lovely nature, surrounding Melholt, can be experienced on food, on bicycle or on horse back.
Worth a visit
See the beautiful and well-preserved castle 'Dronninglund Slot', which was build back in the 11th century, and take f.x. a walk in the lovely castle park (12 km).
In the art centre 'Dronninglund Kunstcenter' you can experience both national as well as international art.
In the holiday town Hals you can enjoy the cosy and vivid atmosphere by the marina. Here you can also visit the fortress 'Hals Skanse'. The powder magazine and the arsenal are preserved and a museum has been established in the latter. The museum of Hals shows an exhibition of local history about the sea, inlet, town, fortress, war and occupation (13 km).
Visit the peaceful and idyllic town Voerså. By the old inn you can rent rowboats and water cycles, sail up the stream and experience the genuine Danish nature (14 km).
Excursion spots
In the charming market town Sæby you will find old, well-preserved houses, streets of cobble stones, the watermill by the stream 'Sæby Å' and a cosy harbour atmosphere at a marina (30 km).
The castle 'Voergård Slot' by Flauenskjold is one of Denmark's most beautiful Renaissance buildings with a park, moats, French art treasures and fine collections of furniture and interior (30 km).
In Aalborg you will find art, culture, pedestrian streets, the charming old town centre and the amusement street 'Jomfru Ane Gade' (40 km).
Frederikshavn is a good commercial town, from where you can go on a daytrip to the island Læsø or Sweden. From the top of the hills behind the town you can enjoy a lovely view over the water, the harbour, the town and the landscape (46 km).
In the amusement park 'Fårup Sommerland & Aquapark' by the holiday town Blokhus you can try out more than 50 exciting activities. When the entry has been paid for, all activities are available for free (68 km).
