In Ajstrup you will find tranquillity, peace, lovely nature as well as a rich animal and bird life.
 The small cosy village Ajstrup is located 5 km south of Hadsund, right by the bay Ajstrup Bugt in the inlet Mariager Fjord. The shore off Ajstrup is scheduled as a natural amenity and many birds reside here. The small town is surrounded by forests and fields. The quiet and very scenic area is an ideal holiday destination for nature lovers and bird enthusiasts. Just 6 km from Ajstrup you will find the town Hadsund, which offers harbour, marina, museums, town life, marked days, pedestrian street, good shopping opportunities and more restaurants.
Beach
It is possible to swim in the inlet Mariager Fjord by Hadsund or by the shore around the spit Als Odde, but the water is very shallow. The white and child-friendly sandy beaches with dunes are available towards north in Øster Hurup (23 km).
Nature
The nature, surrounding Ajstrup, is characterized by fields with grazing cattle, the untouched forest Ajstrup Krat with a rare vegetation and a rich bird life, the forest Havkær Skov by the shore, shallow and preserved salt meadows and beach swamps, which function as breeding and resting areas for many wading birds as well as steep coastal slopes and an undulating moraine landscape. From a high coastal hillside by Ajstrup you can admire the scenic view of the bay Ajstrup Bugt.
Rebild offers Denmark's second largest forest area, Rold Skov, which covers an area of app. 11,000 acres. With its hilly country, many forest lakes and springs, varying forest types, rich animal life, tranquillity and many walking paths the forest is worth visiting at all times of the year (29 km).
Lille Vildmose near Kongerslev is Denmark's largest bog area with lakes, agricultural areas and the forests Høstemark Skov and Toft Skov (31 km).
Activities
The inlet Mariager Fjord offers sailing, fishing and windsurfing.
The level landscape is suitable for bicyclists. Lovely nature experiences await you along the marked bicycle paths, which lead through the beautiful area Østhimmerland and around Mariager Fjord.
Do you wish to fish in Put & Take fishponds, you can test Edderup Fiskepark in Edderup - a small pond, which is surrounded by forest and fields (7 km towards southeast) or Teglværkssøens Fiskepark near Hadsund, which has been established in a 10,000 square metres former clay pit in scenic surroundings (8 km towards north). Mariager Fjord Golfklub from 2007 is located in a spectacular nature area with forest and hills - right down to Mariager Fjord (14 km).
By Rold Skov Golfklub near Skørping you can play on an 18-hole course in a scenic and undulating terrain (27 km).
In Øster Hurup you can visit a subtropical aquapark, which is open year round (23 km).
Worth a visit
The cosy gallery Galleri Hanehøj in Ajstrup exhibits paintings and ornaments, created by the two owners.
Hadsund Egns Museum ¿Rosendal¿ is located in a beautiful nature area and contains exhibitions, which informs about the history of the district - from the Renaissance to the industrial boom (6 km).
By the castle Visborggård Slot you can visit the fine renaissance park, which is open to the public (9 km).
In Danmarks Saltcenter in Mariager you can experience the magic of the salt. The salt centre is Scandinavia's only tourist attraction with the raw material salt as its theme (14 km).
By Mariager Fjord you will find the mill Havnø Mølle - northern Jutland's oldest preserved windmill. From the mill, which has a thatched roof, you can enjoy an unusually scenic view of the inlet (15 km towards northeast).
Excursion spots
The baroque garden Willestrup Barokhave from 1750 by the manor Willestrup Slot is a beautiful manor house park with fountains, roses and bulbous plants. The garden is inspired by French and Italian gardens and the stream Willestrup Å flows through the grounds (24 km).
Rebild Bakker and Rold Skov offer 11,000 acres of hilly terrain, forest lakes, springs, varying forest, rich animal life and many walking paths (29 km).
The viking centre Fyrkat near Hobro embraces the preserved castle mounds Fyrkat as well as re-constructions of a fortress house and a viking farm with nine house, build shortly before the year 1000 (30 km).
An underground sculpture museum has been established in the old pit passages of the limestone quarry Thingbæk Kalkminer by Rold Skov (34 km).
