Vejlerne is an Eldorado for both birds and bird lovers. The unique 6,000 hectares nature area with wetlands in Thy/Hanherred is surrounded by the inlets Lønnerup Fjord, Lund Fjord, Bygholm Vejle and the Liim Fiord. The bird sanctuary consists of meadows with grazing cattle, salt meadows, forests of reeds, brackish water lakes, bogs and inlets, and it attracts birds like ducks, geese, wading birds and birds of prey. The untouched nature area is visited by ornithologists from many countries, who enjoy studying the magnificent birdlife. The birds can be observed from the platforms and gazebos with thatched roof on the spot. Remember to bring your binoculars. At the nature centre on the dam Bygholm-dæmningen, which leads through Vejlerne, you can learn more about the history and animal life of the area.
