Hattemagerhuset

The house Hattemagerhuset is app. 200 years old and the oldest one in Tarm. Until 1850 Tarm consisted of a number of farms and houses, which are situated around the brook. Slightly further south, in the direction of the church Egvad Kirke, a few smallholdings and landless houses were placed. One of these houses was Hattemagerhuset, which was named after Johanne Cathrine Jensdatter, who lived in the house from app. 1840 to 1870. She was a widow and worked as a hatter, haberdasher and day labourer. As in many of the Western Jutland workers' houses of that time Hattemagerhuset has a rather large garden, which formed the subsidiary occupation and the self-sufficiency of the family. Today, Hattemagerhuset appears as it presumably did around the year 1870, and in the historic workshops you can take an active share in baking, cooking over an open fireplace, washing as well as working with wood. You can also explore the garden with the old herbs and perennials. Hattemagerhuset
