Søbygaard

In the manor house Søbygård and by the nearby castle ruin - a former royal castle from the Middle Ages - you can receive an impression of the atmosphere of the past. Even today, you will find building parts on Søbygård, which date back to the 1580'ies. You can take part in one of the numerous arrangements like f.ex. the festival play Ærø Festspil, which is performed once a year by amateur actors, and in the main building of the estate you can see varying exhibitions. Formerly you could reach the manor house by ship by way of the lake Vitsø. Today Vitsø is drained and the former lake is now a conservation area, which is only accessible on foot or bicycle. While you take a survey of Søbygård you can plan a walk or enjoy a cake in the Café Hertug Hans, which is named after the entrepreneur of the manor house in the year 1580.
