Skagens Museum represents both paintings, drawings and sculptures. The Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, German and English artists were all fascinated by Skagen and its special light. Primarily from the end of the 1870'ies and up till the turn of the century. The museum was founded in 1908 by the pharmacist V. Chr. Klæbel, the hotel owner Degn Brøndum as well as the painters Laurits Tuxen, Michael Ancher and P.S. Krøyer. In 1928 the museum building was erected after the design of the architect Ulrik Plesner. P.S. Krøyer, Anna and Michael Ancher as well as Holger Drachmann can be mentioned as some of the most famous Danish artists. The garten house of the museum was the first residence of Anna and Michael Ancher. The granary in the garden - now a café - was P.S. Krøyer's studio in Skagen.
