Martin Andersen Nexøs barndomshjem

The small, cosy and yellow house in Nexø, which was formerly the childhood home of the writer Martin Andersen Nexø, has been converted into a museum, containing personal effects, photos, articles and books. The writer was born in 1869 and died in 1954, and he lived in the house from the age of 8 and 14 years ahead. Experience the modest environments, under which the international famous writer lived during his childhood. This home contributed to his inspiration for his most outstanding works: Pelle the Conqueror (1906-1910) and Ditte Menneskebarn (Ditte, Child of Man) (1917-21). Both novels have been made as screen versions and in 1989 Pelle the Conqueror received an Oscar for Best Foreign-Language Film. A statue of the writer has been erected outside the house.
