Marstal Søfartsmuseum

This shipping museum consists of 4 buildings with more than 30 exhibition rooms. The entrance room was build for the ship owner H. C. Christensen by the shipbuilder L. J. Bager in 1857, and it formerly functioned as a ship chandler's. The shopkeeper Jens Hansen ran this business until 1929, when he converted the shop into a museum. At Marstal Søfartsmuseum you can see objects, which once belonged to the first residents of the area 11,000 years ago, an exhibition regarding the history of the shipping and the fishery in Marstal, more than 200 ship's models, more than 130 bottle ships as well as marine paintings among other things. Visit the museum shop as well. Here you will find books, CD's, bottle ships, ship's models and reproductions of ship's portraits.
