Louisiana

The art museum Louisiana is situated by the shores of North Sealand in a large old park with a view of the sound 'Øresund' and the Swedish coast. Louisiana was inaugurated in 1958 and presented contemporary Danish art, which was supposed to show the correlation between pictorial art, architecture and landscape. The basis of the collection is works from the years after World War 2, when Danish artists like Robert Jacobsen and Richard Mortensen moved to Paris and met with sculptors and painters like i.a. Vasarely and Herbin, which are represented in the collection today. You can also see more recent art of Lichtenstein, Rauschenberg, Warhol, Beuys and Kirkeby among others and be absorbed in the interesting installation in the southern wing. In Louisiana and the surrounding park you can furthermore experience a substantial collection of sculptures. See works of Jean Arp, Max Bill, Alexander Calder, Max Ernst, Henri Laurens, Joan Miró and Henry Moore among others.
