Cathrinesminde Teglværksmuseum

The beautiful, recently restores brickworks buildings are very scenically situated by the inlet 'Flensborg Fjord' and function as a museum with clay pits, kneading mill, moulding hall, annular furnaces, drying shed, machines, models, tile products and furnished workers' houses. The original tileworks originates from 1732. Formerly, app. 70 tileworks were situated around the bay Flensborg Fjord. The tileworks exploited the stoneless muddy puddles of the area, and tiles from the tileworks were used for the reconstruction of Copenhagen after the fire in 1728 among other things. Cathrinesminde was taken out of service in 1969. The museum was built in the end of the 20th. century and is an interesting, historic memorial from the time, when the people of the district lived from their own subsoil. Varying activities for both children and adults are arranged throughout the summer.
