Spend your vacation in the quiet and scenic Liim Fiord area, which invites activities and relaxation
 Gatten is located in a peaceful nature area with fields, forests, lakes and golf courses. The area is ideal for an active holiday, as it is possible to play golf, bowle, fish, hike, bicycle, sail and enjoy nature within a radius of a few kilometres from Gatten.
Gatten is situated between Løgstør (15 km) and Års (13 km), and 16 km towards west you will find the Liim Fiord bathing beach of Trend.
The area is famous for Himmerland Golf & Country Club, which offer 3 challenging 18-hole courses among other things.
You will find good shopping opportunities as well as restaurants in the nearby towns of Løgstør, Års and Farsø.
Beach
It is possible to swim in some of the small lakes in the area, and 16 km from here you can make use of the Liim Fiord beach by Trend - a good long and child-friendly bathing beach with small waves. From the beach you can enjoy the view of the island Livø. Motoring is not allowed on the beach. The opportunities for windsurfing are good here.
If you wish to swim by the lovely sandy beach of the North Sea, which offers waves and dunes, you have to drive 35 km towards north.
Nature
Gatten is surrounded by green landscapes with slightly hilly fields, woods, streams and lakes. The lake Sjørup Sø covers 20 hectares and is scenically situated near Gatten. Here you can walk or fish. The smaller lake Øjesø, equally near Gatten, is suitable for swimming.
Activities
Just 1 km from the centre of Gatten you will find the famous Himmerland Golf & Country Club with 3 challenging 18-hole courses, driving range, putting green and shortgame area.
Himmerland Bowling & Sport Center by the golf courses offers bowling alleys, squash courts, pool, play room, one-armed bandits, a large café and a cosy bar.
Anglers can throw out the line in the streams and lakes of the area, f.ex. in the lake Sjørup Sø and in the Liim Fiord. Furthermore, you can visit the Put & Take fishpond Søttrup Fiskesø, which offers a lovely 7,000 m2, 9 m deep pond with clear water as well as a children's pond of 700 m2 (3 km south of Gatten).
You can windsurf or sail by means of motor or sail on the Liim Fiord.
Furthermore, you will find an indoor go-cart track, a gliding club and 2 marinas in the area.
At the holiday centre Rønbjerg Feriecenter you have access to a subtropical aquapark and plenty of other activities for both children and adults against payment (16 km).
Worth a visit
By the bay Bjørnsholm Bugt, near Trend, you will find the impressive 3-winged mediaeval monastery Vitskøl Kloster from the year 1157. Here it is possible to experience the ruin of a church, a herb garden and the square with the beautiful buildings (13 km).
The fortress Aggersborg from the year 980 is one of the largest ring castles in Denmark with traces of 48 long houses. The viking castle is strategically located here the Liim Fiord is narrowest (17 km).
Many places in the area you are welcome to visit the local craftsmen, see them work in the workshops and admire their works.
Excursion spots
The Ertebølle civilization bears witness of stone age settlement by the Liim Fiord several thousand years ago. By Ertebølle the first kitchen midden was excavated in 1890. By the stone age centre Stenaldercentret in Ertebølle you can learn more about the stone age society (22 km).
From Rønbjerg (16 km) you can go with the ferry to the scenic island Livø, which is traffic-free and very beautiful with a rich animal life and more marked walking paths. On the island Fur, opposite of Trend (16 km), you can experience diversified and distinctive landscapes, which is characterized by level meadows, lakes, fields, hills, steep coasts, forests and moler pita.
The manor house museum Herregårdsmuseet Hessel is located on the peninsular Louns near Hvalpsund (31 km).
The open-air museum Hjerl Hede Frilandsmuseum near Vinderup is an interesting an active museum for the whole family. See how everyday life in the country 150 years ago is vitalized (75 km).
