Vikingeborgen Aggersborg
The viking stronghold has a scenic and strategically ideal location, directly by the Liim Fiord. The circular stronghold originates from around the year 980. It has a diameter of 240 m, and within the old 750 m long rampart, which is re-constructed and build in a height of one meter, you can se traces of the 4 main streets that lead from the centre and out towards each corner of the world. Formerly, 48 long houses were situated here and the stronghold was presumably inhabited by app. 5,000 persons. The 32 m long re-constructed houses from the viking stronghold are erected on the viking centre Fyrkat near Hobro. Excavations on the spot have revealed many finds, like f.ex. pearls, glass and gold ornaments. The finds are exhibited at the museum by Aggersborg, which has been established in a building by the church. Here you can equally learn more about the people, who build and inhabited the stronghold.
