Kalø Slotsruin
Kalø Slotsruin is the remains of one of Denmark's largest mediaeval castles. The year 1313 the king Erik Menved commenced the building of the castle, which was to intensify the royal power as well as control the nature harbours in the inner part of the bay Kalø Vig by virtue of its location. After a couple of turbulent centuries Kalø was entrusted Ulrik Frederik Gyldenløve. In 1672 the owner had most of the castle demolished and the materials were sent to Copenhagen, where they were used for building the palace Charlottenborg on the square Kongens Nytorv.
