The village Stoense is situated on the west coast, in the northern part of the beautiful island Langeland.
 Stoense Strand is a lovely holiday house area in quiet and scenic surroundings, close to beach and forest. A number of leisure activities and sights are available in the area, which is situated about 5 km south of Lohals, where the vivid activity and the quiet charm can be sensed in towns the marina.
Many artists have settled on the island, and their galleries and workshops can be visited around the island. It is possible to buy groceries in Stoense.
Beach
The beach by Stoense is a lovely sandy beach with grass and shallow water, which makes it very suitable for children.
Just north of Lohals you will find a wide and white sandy beach, right behind the forest 'Troldeskoven'.
Nature
The nature of Langeland is characterized by lovely beaches, forest, fields and scenic landscapes, which are suitable for walks and bicycle trips.
Hov is situated on the northernmost tip of Langeland, and surrounded by an undulating landscape with forest. A marked route leads you through the forest and past historic places. By Hov you will also find the 14 metres high cliff 'Frankeklint' with the lighthouse and the plantation 'Hov Plantage' with the old, black holiday houses from before the year 1920.
The forest is plentiful on Langeland, and at some places the beech grows all the way out to the shore. A large population of roe deer inhabit this wooded island.
Activities
On Langeland you can sail, windsurf, dive, play golf, fish, walk or ride a bicycle. The island is an ideal place for nature lovers, who wish to experience the island on foot or on bicycle.
Anglers have good opportunities here, as it is possible to catch sea trout directly from the shore. Deep-sea fishing trips are arranged from the harbour of Lohals
Langeland also offers a golf course and a diving centre.
You can bring the bicycle along on the ferry from Lohals to Lundeborg on Funen.
One weekend every summer, the festival 'Langelandsfestival', a musical experience for the whole family, is arranged. About 20,000 people go to Rudkøbing every year to enjoy the cosy atmosphere and the good music of the festival.
Worth a visit
Stoense has a church and a couple of art galleries.
Lohals lies 6 km north of Stoense and has its own harbour with both fishing vessels and yachts. Experience the safari museum of Lohals with trophy from all over the world.
8 km towards north the lighthouse 'Hov Fyr' is situated.
12 km south of Stoense you will find the red castle 'Tranekær Slot'. The castle is highly situated on a hill and from here you have a great view of the town with its old half-timbered houses. An area of the castle park is called 'Ticon', and here artists exhibit their nature art. The castle museum 'Tranekær Slotsmuseum' is established in an old half-timbered house. The preserved mill 'Tranekær Slotsmølle' from the year 1846 is still running, and when the wind is right, ecological grain grinded. By the mill you can visit a museum for wind power.
'Tobaksladen' by Tranekær was used to dry tobacco leaves during World War 2. The barn has been restored in the original style and the entry is free.
Excursion spots
Visit the 700-years old marked town Rudkøbing, which has preserved its original beautiful houses. See the old part of town, the idyllic and narrow streets with the uneven cobblestones, the cosy marina 'Rudkøbing Skudehavn' and the traffic harbour 'Rudkøbing Trafikhavn'.
'Langeland Museum' in Rudkøbing exhibits ancient collections with i.a. weapons, riding gear, silver coins, glass and silver.
The former military installations 'Langelandsfortet' today function as a museum, and here you can see the canons, the bunkers and an exhibition about the cold war.
