Munkebo is scenically situated in lovely nature surroundings between the inlets of Odense and Kerteminde.
The holiday houses in Munkebo are situated in surroundings of scenic beauty. Munkebo has a small and charming harbour, which is mainly used by leisure-time fishermen. The town offers good shopping possibilities. The calm and cosy holiday area lies close to bathing beaches, larger towns, sights and leisure activities for the whole family.Beach
No real beach is available by Munkebo, as growth and jetties characterize the coast. The water is most suitable for angling, sailing and water sport here.But only a few km towards east, the bathing beach of Kerteminde is available. The water is shallow and clear, bottom is sandy and the beach has the Blue Flag. The area also offers good opportunities for windsurfing.
Nature
From the hill 'Munkebo Bakke', which rises 58 metres above sea level, you can enjoy an outstanding view of the inlet 'Odense Fjord' and the cove 'Kertinge Nor'. The hill is a popular picnic area.The inlet 'Odense Fjord' is appointed a game reserve and the wetlands are an Eldorado for birds.
The nature on the peninsular Hindsholm, just north of Munkebo, is very scenic and outstanding with i.a. 'Fyns Hoved' (the tip of Funen), beaches, hills, picturesque villages, large manor houses and more relics. By the preserved area 'Fyns Hoved' the magnificent nature is characterized by beach, a cliff, a point, moors, forest and a rich bird and animal life.
From here you can enjoy the view of the sea and on a clear day, all the way to the island Samsø, Jutland and Sealand.
The cove 'Kertinge Nor' belongs to the inlet 'Kerteminde Fjord', which is a small barrier inlet with a deep channel in the centre and a large, shallow area in the western part of the inlet.
Activities
Munkebo offers a swimming baths and a sports centre with bowling alleys and a fitness centre. In Kerteminde you can play tennis, petanque and minigolf, waterski, dive and play beach-volley.
Anglers have extraordinarily good opportunities for a haul along the coasts of the area. Furthermore it is possible to go deep-sea fishing onboard a fishing vessel from Kerteminde. From the harbour of Kerteminde you can sail out to the scenic island Romsø.
A number of golf courses are available in Funen, and the courses of 'Odense Golfklub', 'Odense Eventyr Golf Klub' and 'Blommenslyst Golfklub' are the ones, which are situated closest to Munkebo.
The area is suitable for bicycle rides. Try f.x. the route around the cove or a trip to the peninsula Hindsholm. Both trips offer a unique nature.
From the harbour of Boel you can go on a sailing trip with the boat 'Svanen' on the inlet 'Odense Fjord'.
Worth a visit
'Gl. Munkebo Miniby' consists of 55 small houses, which are built as exact copies of houses from the old fishing town as it was before the year 1959. The entry to this impressive and interesting miniature town is free. Viby on Hindsholm is one of the most well-preserved villages in Funen with half-timbered houses and a newly restored mill, which is running during the summer (4 km).
The 1,000-year-old Kerteminde is a vivid and charming commercial town with a fishing harbour, a large and cosy marina, interesting shops, restaurants and sights. You will sense the quite special atmosphere in the narrow alleys with the colourful small houses, the old merchant's houses and the red roofs (7 km).
'Farvergården' in Kerteminde was originally an old merchant¿s house from the year 1630.
In the aqua centre 'Fjord- & Bæltcentret' in Kerteminde you can experience the mysteries of the sea from a 50 metres long underwater tunnel or get close to porpoise from the outdoor bridge.
Excursion spots
In Ladby, 11 km from Munkebo, you can experience the 'Ladbyskibet', which is Denmark's only boat grave from the viking age.Visit the home town of H.C. Andersen, Odense, a modern and evocative town with a number of leisure potentialities (13 km).
In Odense Zoo you can see a special chimpanzee department and a large 'Oceanarium'. 'Den Fynske Landsby' by Odense is an open-air museum, showing a Funen village environment from around the year 1850.
The railway museum 'Danmarks Jernbanemuseum' is a large museum with games, technique, experiences, experiences and nostalgia.
The beautiful castle 'Egeskov Slot' by Kværndrup has a beautiful garden, a giant maze and more museums (40 km).
'Fun Park Fyn' in Aarup contains is a water world, farm animals as well as various amusements for the whole family. When the entry has been paid for, you can make use of all activities as much as you like (43 km).
