Bro Strand is a lovely holiday area in the cove 'Båring Vig' on north-western Funen, and very suitable for families with children.
The village Bro still has its original street system and old beautiful half-timbered houses. The holiday area Bro Strand is situated in scenic surroundings between beach, forest and fields. Furthermore, you will find the cosy marina 'Varbjerg Havn' here. The area is rich in nature experiences and leisure activities for the whole family. It is possible to buy groceries in Bro, which is situated only a few km inland behind the holiday house area. Or you can visit the charming marked town Bogense, 14 km east of Bro, where you will find good shopping possibilities and many restaurants.
Beach As on most beaches in northern Funen, the beach by Bro Strand has coarse sand and stones by the waters edge. The beach is very suitable for children, as the water is shallow and calm. A bathing jetty is available if you wish to jump into the water. The waters outside Bro Strand is a very good surf spot. It is also possible to sail out from the beach in a small boat.
Nature The nature, surrounding Bro, is very varying and you will come across many different types of landscapes. The forest 'Langesøskovene' is a popular excursion spot, and here you will find the estate and the lake of the same name 'Langesø' as well as a small chapel, where it is very popular among bridal pairs to get married. It is possible to walk all the way around the 1,200 metres long lake.
Activities The fishing opportunities are good along the shore, in the Put & Take fishponds of the area as well as on the sea, in a rented boat or onboard the ship 'Castor', which departs from the harbour in Bogense. From here you can also go on a day trip to the islands Endelave, Tunø and Samsø. Golf players have more courses to choose between nearby. It is possible to rent bicycles in the area and follow one of the many bicycle routes, which lead you through the lovely nature of the vicinity and past many sights.
Worth a visit At 'Den Gamle Smedie' (the old forge) in Skåstrup you can see the hand-made candlesticks, which are manufactured on the spot. The grave mound 'Rundhøj' from prehistoric Denmark can bee experienced in the forest area 'Nyhaven' by Skåstrup. 'Harridslevgård' by Bogense is an interesting Renaissance castle with Denmark's largest baronial hall in private ownership.
Excursion spots With its marked town atmosphere, old squares, winding roads, fine merchant's houses and many half-timbers houses, the picturesque harbour and the largest marina in Funen, Bogense is definitely worth a visit. Follow f.x. the cosy town brook, which scenically winds its way through Bogense (14 km). The preserved island Æbleø lies outside Bogense. The island has a quite unique nature, which can be experienced along the 7 km long walking route, leading you round the island. 'Fun Park Fyn' in Aarup is a water world and amusements for the whole family (21 km). The beautiful white castle 'Wedellsborg Slot' is situated in Husby, and there is access to the castle park with fallow deer, lakes as well as rare trees and plants (22 km). Visit the home town of H.C. Andersen, Odense, a modern and evocative town with a number of leisure potentialities (40 km). 'Den Fynske Landsby' by Odense is an open-air museum, showing a Funen village environment from around the year 1850.
