An old well from the middle Ages bear witness that the history of the castle goes back to the 13th century.
The present castle complex is from the Renaissance - 1576 to be exact - and was rebuilt in the Baroque period in 1734.
In the castle you will find one of Denmark?s finest great halls with magnificent ceiling stucco, marbled panels, large wall paintings, and two very large Versailles mirrors from the 18th century.
In the basement you will find Renaissance cellar areas including the oldest working kitchen in Denmark with an open fireplace, and at the end of a guided tour it is possible to enjoy a glass of wine from the wine cellar of the castle.
But the castle is also an experience for children. It has a big play area and treasure hunts are arranged for the older children with prizes to win.
