Knebel is situated on Mols, right by the coves 'Knebel Vig' and 'Kalø Vig'.
Knebel lies in quiet and very scenic surroundings, right by the water and very close to spectacular nature areas. The area primarily appeals to anglers and nature lovers, but it is also famous for its many cromlechs, ruins, castles and manor houses. It is possible to buy groceries in Knebel, and in Ebeltoft, only 18 km away, you will find a rich variety of shops, restaurants and sights for the whole family.
Beach The water is shallow, calm and suitable for children all over the coves 'Knebel Vig' and 'Kalø Vig'. By 'Knebel Vig' you will find the 3 km long and quiet beach 'Thorup Strand'. With its shallow water and the fine, sandy bottom the beach is a lovely place for the whole family. By the cove 'Begstrup Vig' and towards west you will find the long and sheltered beach of Begstrup. This beach also offers good conditions for children because of the shallow water. Windsurfers will also find ideal opportunities here. Don't miss the magnificent sunset over the Kattegat from this beach. 8 km towards east you will find the beach of Femmøller - a good and sandy beach, which is suitable for children and sheltered by small elevation with mixed stand. The beach of Skødshoved, 9 km towards south, has Blue Flag and is one of the most famous beaches of Mols.
Nature
Knebel is situated almost in the bottom of the cove 'Knebel Vig', which is a part of the cove 'Kalø Vig'. Only a few km from Knebel the area 'Mols Bjerge' is located. The area is a magnificent and preserved nature landscape with a varying nature, a number of walking paths, grave mounds and a rich animal life. Thick forest is replaced by open moorland hills and you can enjoy a great view of Mols, the Kattegat as well as the coves 'Kalø Vig' and 'Ebeltoft Vig' from the viewpoints 'Agri Bavnehøj' (137 m) and 'Trehøje' (127 m). By the castle ruin 'Kalø Slotsruin' you will find the forests 'Hestehaven' and 'Ringelmose Skov'. Here you can follow the paths and experience a varying nature with a rich vegetation and animal life. In the bottom of the cove 'Kalø Vig', around Vrinners, you have the opportunity of experiencing seals.
Activities The fishing possibilities are good in the cove 'Knebel Vig' because of the shallow water. The area also offers a number of Put & Take fishponds. It is possible to rent boats in the area and go fishing on the in the cove 'Kalø Vig' or join an arranged fishing trip onboard a fishing vessel, which sails out from Ebeltoft. Djursland offers more scenic golf courses. The nearest are the courses of 'Kalø Golf Club', from which you can enjoy the view of the bay 'Århus Bugt' and the castle ruin 'Kalø Slotsruin', and the undulating and beautiful course of 'Ebeltoft Golf Club'. Lovely nature experiences await you along the many walking, bicycle and bridle paths of the area.
Worth a visit
The famous cromlech 'Porskær Stenhus' with i.a. a burial chamber is situated in the outskirts of Knebel. Knebel also offers more interesting galleries as well as a beautiful, restored mediaeval church with a very interesting interior. The castle ruin 'Kalø Slotsruin' from the year 1313 is a famous tourist attraction. The ruin is scenically situated right by the cove `Kalø Vig¿ and treasures many incredible and interesting stories (9 km). In the workshop of the flint smith in Skødshoved you can experience the art of the stone age at close range (9 km). The glass museum 'Glasmuseet' contains an acknowledged collection of modern, international glass art (18 km). In 'Ree Park - Ebeltoft Safari' the animal species are divided on four continents, as they would be in nature. The frigate 'Jylland' is the largest wooden warship in the world. The hull is 71 metres long, the spread of canvas is 1,881 square metres and it weights 2,450.
Excursion spots In the animal park 'Skandinavisk Dyrepark' you will have genuine nature experiences. From the 250 metres long footbridge you can observe the bears in the amazing bear park (22 km). The amusement park 'Djurs Sommerland' is a fun and interesting experience for the whole family. When the entry has been paid, you can make use of all activities for free (29 km). Moat, forest, fields and meadow scenically surround the castle 'Gl. Estrup'. The castle also contains a manor house museum and an agricultural museum (32 km). Visit Århus, the 'capital' of Jutland, with the amusement park 'Tivoli Friheden', the open-air museum 'Den Gamle By', the music house 'Musikhuset', the small and intimate alleys of the Latin Quarter, the cosy pedestrian streets, the lively atmosphere by stream 'Vadestedet' as well as the forest 'Marselisborgskoven' (42 km). An impressive sight awaits you in the aquarium 'Kattegatcentret'. Observe the fearful sharks at close range behind a thick pane of glass (44 km).
