Bønnerup is situated on the northern coast of Djursland, right by the lovely beach by the Kattegat, and in scenic surroundings. A cosy atmosphere prevails among the old fishing houses in the town¿s scenically situated and active fishing harbour and marina. The harbour is a lovely place of sojourn with tables, benches and bbqs. It is possible to buy fresh fish here every day. At the uttermost ends of the 2 long piers, which frame the harbour, 7 windmills are situated. Bønnerup offers more restaurants and good shopping possibilities.Beach
The beach of Bønnerup is the best bathing beach on Djursland. The lovely sandy beach has Blue Flag and is very suitable for children. Bathing jetties are available more places along the beach. A lovely beach, nature reserves, rush areas, fields and undulating forest areas surround Bønnerup. The stream 'Treå' flows through the town.East of Bønnerup, right by the Kattegat, you will find the scenic and ecological forest 'Emmedsbo Skov', which has a rich animal life, more lakes as well as many paths and roads.
Activities
You can explore the lovely nature around Bønnerup on foot, on bicycle or in canoe. A bicycle path leads from the harbour towards east, along the sea and through scenic areas to the village Gjerrild, past the castle 'Sostrup Slot', the forest 'Emmedsbo Skov' and back to the harbour. Windsurfing and water-skiing are popular activities by the beach.
Anglers will find good opportunities in the area; from the shores, from the piers, in the streams, in the lakes of the forest 'Emmedsbo Skov' as well as in the Put & Take fishponds of the area.
Bønnerup also offers bicycles rental as well as tennis and petanque courts.
Worth a visit
The rebuild mill 'Treå Mølle' is situated by the stream 'Treå' and today it contains the bakery of the town. The beautiful, red castle 'Sostrup Slot' contains a convent among other things.
Excursion spots
The amusement park 'Djurs Sommerland' is a fun and interesting experience for the whole family.An impressive sight awaits you in the aquarium 'Kattegatcentret'. Observe the fearful sharks at close range behind a thick pane of glass.
Moat, forest, fields and meadow scenically surround the castle 'Gl. Estrup'. The castle also contains a manor house museum and an agricultural museum.
In the 'rain forest' you can experience jungle paths, rocks, crocodiles and waterfalls. Randers Regnskov lives up to its name.
The frigate 'Jylland', which is situated in Ebeltoft, is the largest wooden warship in the world. The hull is 71 metres long, the spread of canvas is 1,881 square metres and it weights 2,450.
Experience the activity and the atmosphere of the cosy towns Ebeltoft and Grenå. The towns carry you back in time with their narrow, cobbled streets and lopsided houses. You will find good shops and restaurants as well as more interesting sights in both towns.
