Hvide Sande Sluseanlæg

The large system by the harbour consists of 2 locks: The large sluice and the lock with the bascule bridge and the large blue building 'Blåtårn', where the port authorities is housed. The lock system, which was established during the years 1928-1931, has made it possible for the harbour as well as Hvide Sande to be established and to develop. The sluice aim to control the water level and the salt content of the inlet, while the lock assists the ships on their way between the inlet and the sea - especially fishing vessels, but also small cargo boats. Annually, 2,500 ships pass through the 16.5 metres wide system, and it is always interesting to watch when the bascule bridge is tipped up in order to make room for the ships.
